Spotlight on Excellence

Hubbard Memorial Library has been serving the local community for over a century.

With a mission to bring people together for the purpose of lifelong learning and free access to resources, the Library provides a welcoming, vibrant and accessbile environment to all.

Read more about what the Library has to offer below!

The Hubbard Memorial Library was a gift to the Town of Ludlow from the Hubbard Family. The building opened in 1890 and has been operating as a library ever since. Nearly a hundred years after the library opened, an addition was added to accommodate the growing community.

The Library continues to offer all the traditional items (books, movies, CDs, etc.), but has also added laptops, tablets, mobile hotspots, yard games, video games, and more for the community to enjoy. The Library has also begun to offer free reading and streaming apps for those with a library card.

All Library events and services are on its dedicated website: hubbardlibrary.org. Patrons can sign up for events there as well.

If you’re looking for a fun and engaging summer activity for yourself or your kids this summer, the Library is offering the Adult and Youth Summer Reading Challenges! These are accessible online at hubbardlibrary.beanstack.org. On Beanstack, participants can log the time they spend reading over the summer from June 16 to August 17.

Adults are being challenged to read 20 hours. Those who participate will receive digital raffle tickets to put toward prizes. This year, adults will have a chance to win a Tandem Bagel gift card, a Big Y gift card, tote bags with goodies, and more.

Preschoolers, children and teens are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes a day to earn digital raffle tickets, for a chance to win one of 17 grand prize baskets. The baskets are donated by the Friends of the Library and other local businesses and organizations, but every child who completes at least six weeks of reading and doesn’t win a grand prize basket will receive a smaller prize. Children who are not yet reading on their own can be read to, and if the reader is also enrolled in the summer reading program, it counts for both of them!

All members of the community are encouraged to participate. Reading is a great way to reduce stress, learn something new, improve brain function, and have fun!

Follow the Hubbard Memorial Library on Facebook, and check out its website to learn more about programming!
