Spotlight on Excellence: Cottage Melts

Nestled in the heart of Ludlow at 1327 East St., Cottage Melts is more than just a shop—it’s a little escape. A place to slow down, browse, and enjoy the beauty of handmade craftsmanship.

We’re thrilled to share that Cottage Melts will be reopening this February, bringing back the cozy scents, unique gifts, and local artistry you’ve come to love.

Read on below:

Cottage Melts started as a small online candle and soap business, but as the dream grew, so did the desire to put down roots. Western Massachusetts—and Ludlow in particular—felt like the perfect fit. After connecting with the community and making Ludlow home (literally—the owners live just above the shop!), the vision became reality.

The name says it all: “Cottage” for warmth and comfort, “Melts” for the craft that started it all. Every candle and bath product is still made by hand, right on-site. And if you love wax melts, you’re in luck—Cottage Melts offers New England’s largest selection of soy wax melts, drawing visitors from near and far.

But the shop is more than candles. It’s a curated collection of handmade goods from talented local and regional artists—wood, glass, fabric, metal, clay, and more—alongside seasonal décor and unique home accents. Everything is displayed together, creating a welcoming space that celebrates creativity and community.

Supporting local makers isn’t just part of the mission—it is the mission. Every item is handmade with care, and every purchase helps sustain small businesses and local nonprofits. It’s shopping that feels good because it does good.

Cottage Melts’ story is just as inspiring as its shelves. What began as a hobby turned into a thriving small business, with over 50,000 handmade items sold across all 50 states in just two years. It’s proof of what happens when creativity meets courage—and they hope to spark that same spirit in others. Many of their artists even offer classes like pottery and glass-blowing, inviting you to unplug and create something of your own.

When Cottage Melts reopens this February, it’s not just about shopping—it’s about rediscovering the joy of handmade goods, supporting local talent, and finding beauty in slowing down.

So if you’re ready to get lost in Ludlow, Cottage Melts is waiting to welcome you in. Visit the store, located at 1327, East St., whenever you get the chance.
