Welcome to Fall!
Happy November! As the air gets cooler and the holiday season approaches, it’s the perfect time to explore all that Ludlow has to offer, from enjoying a warm drink at a local coffee shop to grabbing a bite at one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Take in the last of the fall colors, support local businesses and enjoy everything that makes our community special.
As we head into the season of giving thanks, the Celebrate Ludlow Committee will be hosting a slate of festive events for the holiday season, as featured in this newsletter!
Upcoming Events
Pancake Breakfast with Santa
Start your holiday celebrations with Pancake Breakfast with Santa at Harris Brook Elementary School from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 29. Tickets are $5 for children and $7 for adults, and include pancakes, sausage, milk and juice. The Brigham Lodge Masons will be on hand to help serve breakfast to families.
Children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa, create take-home Christmas crafts, enjoy coloring pages, and participate in other festive activities. It’s a wonderful way for families to start the day with good food and holiday cheer!
Light Up Ludlow
Keep the festivities going at the annual Light Up Ludlow celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 29. This beloved community tradition brings residents together for an afternoon of holiday music, family activities, local vendors, and the lighting of Ludlow’s Christmas tree at approximately 6 p.m., as the sun sets.
Enjoy Christmas carols performed by the Ludlow High School Chorus and local children’s groups, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Families can warm up with free hot chocolate, popcorn and cookies while enjoying a variety of activities, including free make-and-take Christmas ornaments, a snow measuring stick, cornhole games, and a snowball toss.
Local food trucks, crafters and artisans will also be on site, offering plenty to explore. Hockey fans and young athletes can visit with Boomer from the Springfield Thunderbirds, who will join the Ludlow Hockey Association for a fun hockey shootout for kids.
Santa will make a special entrance aboard a Ludlow Fire Department truck, escorted by Ludlow Police, before joining the festivities. One of the most exciting moments of the evening will be the annual tree lighting, when Santa selects two children to help light the tree in a special community countdown.
Give Back with Toys for Tots
Light Up Ludlow is also held in conjunction with the Ludlow Rotary’s Toys for Tots program, giving residents an opportunity to help bring holiday joy to children in need. Members of the United States Marine Corps will be on site with their 7-ton truck, and the community is encouraged to help fill it with donated toys.
Anyone who brings a toy to the event will receive a ticket for a chance to win a beautiful gift basket. Residents can also donate ahead of time at participating collection boxes around town displaying the Toys for Tots logo.
Additional holiday fun includes a local Boy Scout troop selling balsam wreaths and Scouts tending burn barrels where families can gather to stay warm throughout the evening.
With festive music, family-friendly activities, local vendors, opportunities to give back, and the excitement of the tree lighting, Light Up Ludlow is a wonderful way to celebrate the season and the community we call home. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 29, and join Celebrate Ludlow for a full day of holiday fun!
